It was finally time for Mike Lima and I to leave UK soil. This was to
be a short hop across the Channel and clear with French customs at St
Auban. The weather forecast for the trip was pretty good, although
the haze lowered the visibility quite considerably. With all checks
completed, we were soon airborne making tracks for the Seaford VOR, our
last UK waypoint.
Turning onto 145 at 4000' I tracked the
Seaford VOR until Nav 2 picked up Dieppe. At 50nm from Seaford I entered
cloud, and started the descent

towards Dieppe, before picking up the St Auban NDB. Setting my
altimeter to St Auban QFE, I was glad to break out below the cloud at
1000', with the two parallel runways almost dead ahead. With a 7kt North
Westerly, runway 31L was the ideal choice, and after a fairly tight
left-hand circuit Mike Lima settled on the tarmac for her first visit to
France.
All in all a pleasant short leg, although it would have been nice to
have seen the French coastline as I crossed it, rather than white
cloud!
